Dear Club Members and Parents,
As many of you are aware, competitive cricket is still not allowed, but practice in groups of up to 6 is permitted. The ECB are optimistic that competitive cricket will resume shortly and have asked clubs to prepare for this. We understand that there is a meeting this week between the ECB and government officials on this subject and we await the outcome with interest. Additionally, licenced premises are allowed to re-open from 4th July and this has implications towards the re-opening of the Clubhouse Bar for members.
The Club’s Executive have considered carefully the steps required to re-open the Club safely and in line with all current regulations and guidelines. We have completed a risk assessment and can assure you that opening of the clubhouse is not a simple task! It is our intention to re-open the clubhouse facilities from Saturday 18th July latest. This allows us to put all requirements in place and take feedback from other establishments on how the re-opening of bars has been managed. It is worth stressing that currently the clubhouse will be limited to a maximum 30 members who will all need to socially distance in groups and further details will be published in due course of how we intend to manage this.
From 8th July we will be starting youth practice sessions at Ekco for our under 11s, 13s and 15s. We will send separate details of how we intend to run these sessions to the relevant parties later this week. At this time, we don’t consider it practical to restart cricket for our under 9s. We will also be looking to use Ekco to host senior training sessions and again details will follow. We have also taken the decision to postpone the Cricket Week and summer camp scheduled for the end of July. Depending on how things progress over the next few weeks, we will consider running these events later in the season.
To ensure you are able to use the clubhouse facilities and/or play cricket in line with our licencing and insurance requirements you need to be a fully paid up member of the Club. We will be contacting those individuals whose membership appears to have lapsed shortly but if you are aware you need to update your membership or have circumstances we need to consider please contact Simon Burch in the first instance on 07973 667975.
We will continue to update you with more information as the situation develops and as we receive further guidance. In the first instance, please check on the Club website www.leighcricket.com and also the Team App where we will be posting all relevant information and guidelines.
